World Social Work Day 2024 - Kwa-Zulu Natal

World Social Work Day is an annual event that is celebrated on the third Tuesday of March. It has become a highpoint for social workers to celebrate this day as it’s serves as an opportunity to raise visibility and highlight the important role that social workers play in the public health sector. The Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Health celebrated this day under the theme “Buen vivir: Shared future for transformative change”.  It was a collaborative event between King Cetshwayo Health District and the University of Zululand. The celebration took place at King Bhekuzulu Hall where Prof. John Rautenbach (Social work – academic leader) emphasized the role of social workers in fighting social ills. Different speakers reminded social workers about the importance of fostering communities that thrive on mutual respect and sustainability. An SAOSWF committee member, Zama Maxhakana, attended this event and presented and promoted the role of social workers with patients receiving oncology treatments. There was much interest displayed from colleagues in the public health sector to join the SAOSWF and attend the monthly CPD meetings.
